Canadian immigration minister, Marco Mendicino has said on multiple occasions how he believes that growing immigration rate serves beneficial for the country’s economy. Canada has been facing a demographic challenge of the aging population, and with more and more people retiring the pensions and health care has been increasing. In order to balance that population, Canada believes in a large flow of immigrants. Immigration has always acted as an economy booster and helps in bringing new talent and flow of labor. “Without an influx, we’ll become a very old country, and that’s a very expensive proposition,” Agopsowicz said. Canada is set to increase immigration as soon as the country is ready to open its borders again and make up for the time lost due to the ongoing pandemic. Canada is also set to welcome more and more students as they believe that it helps in creating a pathway for innovation. The students help to fund universities, launch businesses that attract more people and hence more investment. In conclusion, immigration does act as an engine for economic growth and hence will be increased in the coming years in Canada.
